Growing up, my parents were active members of the Immaculate Conception Parish. They worked at the carnivals and bingos that were fundraisers for our education. As an adult with my brother Bob, we coached in our parish basketball league, the girls’ Trenton PAL, the girls’ CYO basketball and softball teams – and I was an IAABO basketball official for Central Jersey. I was the coordinator for Immaculate’s Religious Education Program for 20-plus years, a gym instructor, and coordinator for the after-school program. While attending Mercer County Community College, I worked part-time at Casino’s Restaurant in the Chambersburg area. I continued to build lasting memories of being employed at Tony Goes Restaurant on S. Olden Avenue in Hamilton, which was owned by Albert Sbarro. Being employed by Al and working with his family was a memorable time in my life. All the customers and staff were part of that extended family. It wasn’t only the food that we served but the memories and friendships we obtained and still maintain today. That is the kind of business and tradition that I would like to carry on at the café. More recently, I have been involved with the Parish of St. Anne’s Parish where my daughter attended. I volunteered for their Children’s Liturgy of the Word Dismissal. With the opening of Ray’s Market Café, I would like to use this opportunity to serve the public and as a way to stay committed to the many valued groups and individuals who volunteer their services throughout the area. Having worked for the City of Trenton for the past 25 years as a zoning officer, and part-time for 15 years at West Windsor Township, I have come across exceptional people who I’ve established valuable relationships and friendships with, and who are the backbone of the communities they serve. I too want to give back to the community that I have serviced over the years. So please stop by and share your memories and enjoy the food.
